Preparing for Surgery

Local Anaesthetic

For procedures under local anaesthetic only please ensure you have something to eat & drink prior to your appointment time. It helps to minimises anxiety as does listening to music! BYO earbuds or headphones so you can listen to your music during the procedure. Local anaesthetic will not affect your ability to drive to and from your appointment.

Sedation & Local Anaesthetic

Fasting instructions will be given at the time of making your procedural appointment. Sedation will affect your judgement for about 24 hours so it is important that you do not:

  • drive or operate machinery
  • drink alcohol
  • sign any legal documents
  • be responsible for the care of another individual
  • have an adult with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure

General Anaesthesia

If you are attending a hospital for your surgery under general anaesthetic, you will be given instructions regarding when and where to attend, together with fasting instructions a couple of days prior to your admission date. The same precautions and post-procedure restrictions apply as listed above under IV Sedation.
