Oral Pathology

There are many pathological conditions that can arise from the soft tissue, teeth and bones of the mouth. The majority of these are benign. You may be referred to our specialists if your dentist or GP notice changes or abnormalities within your mouth or xray.

Obtaining a diagnosis

  • In some cases, you may require further imaging such as a CT Scan, ultrasound, or MRI scan as part of the investigation.
  • In order to accurately diagnose your condition, a biopsy may be required. Most biopsies can be done under local anaesthetic in the clinic, however difficult to access areas may require a general anaesthetic in hospital.
  • There will be a period between your biopsy and when you receive your results. During your follow-up consultation, our specialist surgeon will discuss your results and any further treatment that may be required.
