Hospital Admissions

We understand that having surgery in hospital can be new territory for many patients. Here’s some information for a smooth and comfortable experience:

Meeting Your Anaesthetist: Shortly before surgery, you’ll meet your friendly anaesthetist who will discuss the type of anaesthesia used and answer any questions you may have.

Day of Surgery Checklist:

  • Fasting: Remember, no food or drinks (including water) for the past six hours.
  • Smoking Cessation: Avoid smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, quit smoking well in advance for improved recovery.
  • Support System: Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to the hospital and drive you home safely.
  • Post-Operative Care: Following general anesthesia, avoid driving or operating machinery for 24 hours.
  • Comfortable Attire: Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing for your hospital stay.
  • Minimal Accessories: Please remove contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures before surgery.
  • Minimal Makeup: Avoid wearing lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
  • Communication is Key: If you experience a cold, sore throat, upset stomach, or bowel problems before surgery, please inform our office.
